A day trip to Oatman, Arizona

The afternoon of August 21st, I loaded up my dog, Bailey, and the camera for an afternoon run from Lake Havasu City to Oatman. I took I-40 east from Exit 9 to Exit 44 where I exited I-40 and got on Route 66 heading West. These are the pics from that trip. As always, you can right-click on the thumbnail, select "View image" to see the image full size, and use your browser's back button to return to this page. There are a LOT of pictures on this page. Please wait for it to load.

This is a view back east on Old Route 66, I just drove it from the I-40 turnoff.

This is a look west, I'm about to enter the mountains.

A way station, where you can get cold drinks before embarking on your journey.

And now the fun starts. Route 66 along this stretch is full of hairpin turns and switchbacks. FUN to drive. And made MORE FUN due to the fact I was trying to drive and shoot pictures at the same time.

An actual GOLD MINE, which you can tour!

We are approaching Oatman!

We have arrived!

One of the local citizens!

Here's the ONLY donkey we saw all day. Usually they're all over the place. Bailey had fun sniffing all the donkey droppings though. She's ODD!!!!

When we left Oatman, we continued West on Route 66, heading for Golden Shores/Topock.

The rest of the pictures from this trip are posted on the Golden Shores/Topock page. Or click HERE to return to the Arizona pictures index.
